Honey Brook Presbyterian Church

Church History

Honey Brook Presbyterian Church is located in the borough of Honey Brook, a town of approximately 2,000, located in the northwest corner of Chester County. Surrounding the borough is Honey Brook Township, having a population of approximately 7,000. The vast farmland, mostly Amish owned, initially gives Honey Brook Township the appearance of a rural area. However, there are also many developments, two retirement facilities, senior citizen housing, a 55+ community, mobile home parks, many single family homes, and even a golf course.

Although our area retains a rural atmosphere, the encroaching world of development is also evident. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful region, growing to accommodate new families of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Being one hour from York, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia makes this peaceful country setting a desirable place to settle.

Honey Brook Presbyterian Church is steeped in a long history of traditions. It has been served by 26 ministers from 1836 through 2006. The present structure, built in 1852, is a two-story building with the sanctuary on the second floor. Through the years it has been used for community events, public school functions, as well as by several organizations.

After the present church was built in 1852, a lofty steeple was constructed to hold a bell tower and clocks, placed by contributions from the community. The bell, rarely used anymore, announced the start of Sunday school and worship service. It also called firemen to a fire, rung for peace following World Wars, announced the hostage release from Iran, and brought in the New Year.

In January 2006, a new Christian Educational building was dedicated. It houses the church offices, a fellowship hall, kitchen, nursery, and Sunday school rooms. An elevator gives access to the second floor with a cross-over to the sanctuary, making everything handicap accessible.
